Flight Refund?

Hi,

It's my wife's 50th this year so as a surprise I've planned a sunshine holiday with our 2 children over the Easter. Travelling out on 29th March.

Now it's turns out that she's unsure she can get the times off, but will double check.

I bought Travel Insurance and flights are with RyanAir.

If I flag this early enough will I be able to get a refund.

Plan Z will be for me to just go with the Kids rather than waste all the money.

Not a chance in hell of a refund.

Even if you paid for the fully flexible ticket it only allows "free" changes - at about €80 per person per leg.

I think you are going on your own with the kids - she'll love the break 😉😉😉

Insurance? Is there an illness etc involved that prevents travel? Insurance doesn’t cover cases where a person can’t get time off work.

Insurance would never cover that.

Travel insurance won't cover that.

It might be cheaper to buy new flights with Ryanair than pay to move them.

Slightly different question, hope it's ok. Anybody know what happens if you miss/dont show up for your outward journey on a return booking, will you have any bother when you turn up for the return?. I want to go out on an earlier flight but they want €45 to change it for a flight that's gonna cost €16.99. Can I just make a new one way outbound booking for the earlier flight?

Yep it's Ryanair, just had a change of plans and need more time at the destination. Given that it is Ryanair I had visions of not being allowed board the return because I didnt use the outward., thanks for the reply.

Its probably worth checking that with Ryanair. It may not be a problem with them, I don't know. But I do know for sure that with British Airways or Aer Lingus, if you don't show up for the outward leg, they will automatically cancel the whole booking.

Its not a problem with Ryanair. With them you book two seperate flights in one booking. I have done this a few times already. With the more traditional airlines you book a return flight.

They don’t (at least for euro flights) they sell 2, 1 way tickets as opposed to a return ticket.

Ryanair are a point to point airline. Outbound and inbound are not linked so no problem not taking outbound.

Legacy airlines have different rules which usually dictate that flights must be taken in sequence of which they're booked which would result in cancellation of return flights if you didn't take outbound
