Public Sector vs a Position that's public funded

Hi looking for some clarity on a position with a hospital that has a job description etc with a grade value and access to the single public service pension scheme. The contract is with the hospital but everything about it looks to be public service yet not with HSE. Is the actual position considered to be public service or private with just matching characteristics. I know this sounds silly but its not clear.

The HSE and department of Health fund a lot of organisations that provide services and fund roles. Usually that gives the organisations the opportunity to go slightly outside elements of public pay agreements etc. but generally they stick to them. What it does mean is that if funding is cut the role may no longer exist and you would not necessarily get transferred to a different role in the hospital. For a full public servant they would have to find you a different role at the same grade (even if a totally different job).

it is not unlike an SNA in a school - they are paid by the department but their contract is with the school. If the role is cut form that school they dont get into a different school automatically.

Full department / HSE contracts are better but not always available if you are working on a particular project / service delivery task that has a unique funding stream.

Many thanks for that, appreciate the clarity. Would you have knowledge if the contract was fixed term but you were to be offered permanency prior to end would that be a full department contract or say that would be with the hospital and the public pension would no longer apply to role?
