I recently purchased a house with a small coal shed to the rear

The roof I'm fairly certain is asbestos (2m squared) Does anyone know anyone around Limerick who would dispose of this (licensed)

Unless you're actually re-roofing it or knocking the shed why not leave it alone.

I'm no expert but my understanding is that it's doesn't pose a risk if left untouched, it's only as you break it up the tiny particles of asbestos dust makes it dangerous.

Sorry, I don't know of any licensed operators that could remove it safely and within the guidelines.

I would paint it with a tar roofing compound to ensure it doesn't flake away and create dust in dry weather.

You can take it down and bag it up yourself then bring it away or have it collected.

Its no big deal, just wear the proper ppe.

Are you sure that this is allowed? I understood that you have to be licenced to do this.

You are putting others at risk as well as yourself. How will you know if there are residues?

Taking it down is the dangerous bit; disposing of it safely is comparatively straightforward. Wearing the proper PPE is nothing like a sufficient precaution; you have to ask yourself how you are managing the risk you create for others by releasing airborne asbestos fibres into the environment. A specialist contractor will use screening, damping and other techniques to contain the asbestos fibres. That's why this kind of work is so expensive.

If this is being done, it needs to be done by specialist contractors.

The good news is that the general view is that this is best not done at all unless and until it needs to be done. As long as the roof is sound and is left undisturbed, that's generally much safer than doing anything to disturb it. So unless the roof is visibly decaying or you need to demolish the shed for other reasons, you should leave well along.

Along with the advise leave be if no need to remove best bet would be to ascertain if it is an asbestos roof , a lot of people tend to think they have when it turns out not. you could engage the people listed above to check if its asbestos

Thanks for all the replies I should have been clear that I need to knock this for renovations I plan on carrying out to my garden. Also it is quite an old shed so to me there's a risk of it breaking at some point so I'd rather it removed especially with kids

Regards doing it myself I have been told this is possible with PPE and proper disposition but due to the nature of it I'd rather pay a professional

Proper decision ! Even if you removed it by the book , no where will allow you to dump it. It has to be bagged and last I heard - sent to Germany or Holland for safe disposal.
