elderly parent with Alzheimers and discharge from hospital

Long story short. My elderly mother had a fall and now is facing discharge post surgery. She lives alone and now will require fulltime care. We can't get a place in preferred nursing homes locally. What is likely to happen? The hospital want to meet family re same by end of the week with view to discharge next week. I have a relative ( in this county) who got 4 weeks transitional funding until a permanent place came up. Is that case by case or standard? A friend ( albeit in another part of the country) told me her mother got 10 weeks transitional funding.

I hear that a step down might be offered for 2 weeks convalescence. But she needs a long stay place. Just want to be fore armed before meeting the ortho- geriatric team.

    Thanks.
