Dualsense Not Charging From Magnetic Cable Any More - Now USB Only

Anyone any charging issues with dualsense in last month?

I have 2 dualsense both about 6 months old. Both stopped charging from a 3m magnetic cable I have plugged into a samsung 5v2a charge block.

Now they only charge when connected via usb to the ps5. Not the end of the world but was very convenient using the magnetic cable.

Things Ive tried:

• hard reset both controllers and repaired
• ps5 and dualsense all up to date with firmware
• changed communication method from bluetooth to usb in ps5 settings
• removed both controllers from PS5 accessory settings and repaired
• used multimeter to test 2 x magnetic cables with 3 different charge blocks (all 5v2a - dont want to go any higher in case I damage dualsense batteries). All giving between 5.1v and 5.24v.

Stumped. Any ideas?

I'm confused as to what this magnetic cable is that you are talking about.

Dualsense can only be charged via USB C cable ...

3 metre cable was very handy for charging while playing and minimizing any potential damage to charge port. e.g. if the cable gets caught on something it will separate from the magnetic connection easily.

Been charging this way since ps5 launch no probs. Wondering now could a recent dualsense firmware upgrade have put and end to charging this way...

Oh yeah, like Apple mag safe connectors.

Maybe it was a firmware update.

Microsoft also clamping down on 3rd party peripherals and controllers. They say to prevent cheating in online games but yeah ...

Here's an idea ... search for same on Amazon and see if others now have the same problem with those cables

I have a charge tower with usb A slots that output 5v/2.4a.

After cleaning up the magnetic connectors with some alcohol + cotton buds both dualsense now charge from the tower. So looks like they now need a bit more power for some reason.

My only question is will this higher charge damage the dualsense battery or will the controller just pull what it needs?

PS5 dual sense only 3 months old. No visual damage. For no reason yesterday the X button wouldn’t respond. Did all TS, including reset and no joy. Bought new one today and all ok now. Is this type fault common, and what’s the likely issue? Software bug?

Ive never had a dead button but after 3 months Id be taking straight back (or return post) to where you got it. I had dualsense with drift after 10 months. Took back to Currys and they handed me a new 1 off the shelf under warranty.

Thanks. Bought in Smyths. Warranty only 14 days, but a year warranty with Sony.

Thats incorrect. Maybe refund 14 days. Id be back to Smyths and demand they replace it.
