Hi all, looking for feedback from people that have experience working for Abbott in Ireland. I am considering applying for an office job there. Is it a good company to work for? What's work life balance like? I have experience working for a big Corporation but looking for something with good work life balance (no overtime, reasonable management etc). Thanks

I worked for Abbott for a year. Overall its a great company to work for and they will bend over backwards to accommodate you. If your competent then their package is good and you will get recognition for hard work. They generally work flexitime unless you are in a production roll - and they were accommodating of remote working.

All this said things I didn't like. They use a huge number of specialist software suites and training on them is patchy - some packages took months to get access to since they had to be authorized by America before you were given login details - it often took many rounds of pushing to finally get access. They use a self learning training system with lots of quizzes - which can be a pain and you must pass them to do your job. Any mistakes can cause endless amounts of paperwork and follow up - this is especially significant on the quality control and production side. They want you to be a self motivator willing to seek new challenges all the time so if that isn't you - they will expect you to move on.

If there is a production deadline to meet then there is an expectation that you will do overtime to meet schedules - refusing will be frowned upon.

Ultimately I was to old and the learning curve was to steep for me to make a good fit and so I left after the one year trial period. Everything about it is very American. Give it a go and see if it fits your personality.
