Stop the world and let me the fuсk off. We are well and truly up shᎥt creek as a society. If this rubbish is on the LC children will be brainwashed with this utter nonsense.

What was wrong with classics like My Left Foot? Othello? Or Billy Elliot or MacBeth.

There’s a concurrent thread in After Hours which might have a different spin to this one.

To be fair, my recollection of my leaving was that there was a number of books, plays & films that were on the syllabus & that a theme is decided. Each school can then pick from those on the list for a comparative of how they look at the topic. So the topic for mine was "The role of women in society" - the Barbie movie actually would fit quite well within this and, depending on what the other texts chosen were, could give a really good comparison. And considering the book I had to read for that comparison, this is a vast improvement.

And what exactly do you think they will be brainwashed with? Or will it maybe make them think? Coz god forbid that happen.

How is Barbie of any educational merit? Smacks of feminist nonsense.

I would think that the critical examination of the themes in any movie is educational. I would argue some of the other films previously included were of little to no merit in an entertainment way but were good for use in a compare & contrast scenario which is what the Barbie movie will be used for in the Leaving Cert. It's not being used as a replacement to something like the Shakespeare text.
