VAT on UK classic car

    This may have been answered elsewhere but can't find it

    So I've been looking at classic cars in the U.K. over 40 years so vrt should be 200.

    In the case of VAT and Customs duty I presume this is based off the purchase price. If buying privately for example say for 6K sterling could you get the seller to give you a receipt for 3-4k and present that for VAT and duty purposes?

    If the Revenue think you're at it, they'll come up with their own figure and some extras.
