Mouldy painting on the ceiling.

My bedroom got damp and there is a lot of mould on the ceiling(white emulsion paint)

After I have repaired the flat roof what would be a good plan for repainting the ceiling?

Normally I attack the mould with soap and water.

It is an annoyingly tedious and fairly uncomfortable job as you have to bend your neck and work against gravity to rub off the mould from the ceiling.

I have an idea to buy a steamer .

Would that make life easier?

I imagine I would still have to wipe over the area before painting.

Anyone done this kind of thing before and is able to give me some advice as to what kind of a steamer to get etc etc?

Do you mean after treating it with a steamer or just washing it with bleach?

You would have to rinse the bleach solution off first ,wouldn't you?

It will smear otherwise I think(the mould is quite thick)

Bleach solution (diluted) in spray bottle, protect eyes and lungs. Is room fully dried out? get humidity meter and see what measures you might need to take.

No just spray the mould with a spray bottle and leave it to do it's business. It won't smear. You can take a damp cloth to it afterwards if you want but the bleach should clear the mould.

Are you saying I can paint directly over the treated mould?(once it is dead)

That I may not even have to wipe away the "dead mould"...

Maybe that depends on how thick the mould was allowed to grow?
