Our local park got hammered in the recent storms and some big chestnuts came down. Would be a crying shame for them to go for firewood. Anybody know any sawmills buying this kind of timber?

because it was in a park surrounded with old stonewalls should be safe as regards nails etc

Horse chestnut (Aesculus) can have either pink or white flowers.

There is a mix of both there now the biggest one that’s down I’m not 100% sure what it is now because all the branches are off at this stage

The sweet chestnut timber is brown in colour and looks very similar to oak when sawn, it could be used for furniture making, the horse chestnut timber is white and only suitable for firewood as far as I know

Saw 4 x 3 ft diameter chestnut trees cut off road ditch recently . All had substantial cavities in the middle.Chestnut needs about two years drying after felling before being suitable for burning.
