Window wiper

Hi I fitted a new window wiper motor about 4 months ago to our car which is a nissan 2011 qashqai as there was problems with linkage . Today it stopped working altogether . I checked voltage to the plug which was around 11.5 volts and battery voltage was 12.4 volts. I checked washer motor fuse by doing continuity and was fine. I took it off inspected it and a bit of water came out of it , it looked as though water may have got in somehow i think it could have got in through the cowling. I put it back on and I tapped the motor a few times and it started working but would only worked on the highest speed. To make matters worse i was connecting wires from the battery to the plug pins and wiper motor and it sparked a bit and now the rear motor is not working either. Im so pissed. What harm have i done to the rear motor . If i reversed polarity would it have damaged the rear motor and what could be wrong with the front motor ? Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'd check for a blown fuse first. Owners manual should have a fuse layout.

Dunno about your rear motor but i started a thread about my missus 2012 qashqai front wiper motor. Same issue water keeps gettin in but for the life of me cant find out where. Been thru about 5 wipers in a bit over 12 mths. Cheap and expensive ones. Latest one installed cost 100 euro. Found a tip on line was to do cover motor with silicone grease before installation to prevent water gettin in. Badly sealed units they are, cheap and expensive.

So my advice for now for your front motor is to buy cheap motor off amazon, a couple of days delivery if u can wait that long. Think 35 euro wit amazon prime includin delivery and smother it wit silicone grease (silicone grease spray or actual silicone grease) til you find the leak.

I checked the fuse its under the drivers compartment . i pulled off the plastic cover and the i checked all the fuses for continuity and all ok. There was a layout of where the fuses are on the back of the plastic cover and the washer motor as it was called was a 10 amp fuse and was not blown.

Thanks for that. Water did come out of the motor when i took it off and i dont know how it got in there in the first place. Its just i hate it when i do a job and then it breaks down again.

Where do put the grease around ? and how long has the problem stopped since you put grease around it ?

Is rear wiper a seperate fuse to front wiper or are they both same fuse?

Basically all over it I'm assuming not into where it plugs in, but all over the outside of it. That's what my mechanic did. It was only done 2 weeks ago still workin🤞

Front and rear wipers would have their own fuse.

We in the garage would have used an Auto probe 6 - 24v and can test for either a + or - feed/earth.

If fuses are okay check block for + and - feed/earth

Then check on speed one is there a second feed

Next speed does another terminal come live.

Finally fast speed another terminal becomes live .

Stalks are common enough to go faulty.

You dont have to buy a new wiper motor if linkages are worn.

Motor factors had kits for overhauling linkages.

Quick update I took out the front wiper motor and linkage and took apart the motor and it was very wet inside. I blew it out with airline dried and cleaned it off and put it back in and it worked. I also put gasket silicone around where the motor seals and aroumd anywhere else water may get in. So heres hoping !

Why was the motor wet as usually covered and not exposed and are the drainage holes working to not be a swimming pool.?

Draining holes were blocked with leaves and muck . Never had this issue before will keep it clear from on.
