2015 passat bushing replacement

Car failed nct on bushes on the wishbones. The wishbone is steel. Can the bushes be replaced on the steel ones. Brought car to a mechanic and he told me that i need to buy the wishbones too as the bushes can only be replaced on the aluminium ones??? Is this true??? Obviously buyin new steel wishbones are gonna be more…

I had the same issue with a Passat. Bought two new wishbones from a motor factors for €80 each trade price.
