Insuring an old house

Many of the insurance companies won't insure a house over 100 years. Does anyone have any experience with this issue and if so which insurance did you go with? Currently trying to insure a 140 year old house with the original roof and it is proving difficult to say the least.

I've had to use a broker for years now, have gone through a few - Chill, Quote Devil, Acorn, Glennons and probably others.

Currently insured with Allianz via Acorn, house is 120 years old
