Currently have a Redmi Note 10 Pro and looking to change.

Xiaomi is good value but I'm not mad about the user experience. The Redmi note 12 Pro is very good value for the price though so I'm considering it.

    What are people's opinions?

    Thanks

Get a Poco X6 pro, it will be double the performance of the redmi note 12 pro

It can be a pain when trying to view files back in the File Manage you get lots of ads, additionally lots of reminders to change themes, other than that it's ok.

The Redmi Note 13 Pro was released on Amazon last week, they had it for £300 at launch, it had 256gb storage. One bad thing about the 12 Pro onwards is they have done away with SD card support, probably not a problem for most people but it would encourage me to go with the 256gb model over the 128gb.

I've been using Xiaomi's since 2018. I generally flash mine with the xiaomi.eu ROM and use Nova as my launcher. Current phone is a Poco F5 and honestly? On a bang for buck basis, they're very hard to beat, especially for the mid-range stuff.

I don't mind miui, i have all advertising and tracking switched off and never get advertising in any part of the system.

No issues with hardware and software running smooth. Main concern is the pre installed spyware that you can't uninstall.

Whats the Redmi Note 13 Pro Plus -5g ike?

Have an upgrade due and Im done with the whole flagship thing - paying €1000 plus for the latest when all I really use it for is calls / texts / browsing - I can get this free for €29.00 a month over 24 months phone is "free" - Im paying €20.00 sim only at the minute so in effect Im paying €240 for the phone. My current phone is acting up so need something soon.

I also have unlocked bootloader on my Poco F5 and installed xiaomi.eu ROM. Bloatware is gone and Google dialler back which means I can natively record calls for work without having to rely on hit or miss third party apps. Hyper OS was released in past few weeks (same OS as on X6) but waiting to make the jump to ensure all the niggles have been ironed out.

Can you send a link to how I would do that, not tech savvy, thanks

    It's all on xiaomi.eu website.

The girlfriend got a redmi phone and I set it up for her

I have a google pixel and you appreciate it having its own versions of stuff like gallery files and no secondary ones. Speaking of galley, the Miui one is crap, I only just put pictures on it (as she had them on a sd card) and started on about redundant albums so I said just use google files/photos (fearing start deleting photos etc)

After that stuff like themes/ringtones etc is very gimmicky, it would remind you of Zedge or that sort of app and of course plenty of paid options

Also, the booster/cleaner etc, again very gimmicky and remind you of the old days of battery saving cleaner etc apps from years ago

The UI is nice, well I dumed it down as she is terrible with tech and the control centre would have her rightly confused instead of just here is your notifications

I didn’t want to go into adb removing stuff as its literally brand new and not my phone, if it was my phone I would remove gallery, booster/cleaner etc and would investigate flashing a rom as mentioned (but I would see about bootloader as having it unlocked officially by Huawei caused issues with a phone I got from Vodafone)

Another thing I didn’t like was having a Xiaomi AND google account (I know just can be ignored) could lead to confusion, especially with backups etc

She got the Redmi Note 12 and I didn’t like the sim tray on the bottom as the pin hole is much higher up than other phones (had to use the ejector that came with it not ones I had) then I barely put it in the (im guessing) microphone hole at the other end as thought that was the release hole

Be interesting to see when it goes too android 13

I have the Redmi 11 and my wife the Redmi 12. Have been buying Xiomia back to the Redmi 7.

Can't fault them, great quality and good performance. Battery life is good. Both came with EU Roms which means no bloatware and no advertising. Screens are nice and big and clear. the only thing I don't like is that they locked you out from flashing custom ROM's like Linoage but the MIUI is good enough that it doesn't really matter. MIUI is quite aggressive at switching things off so auto-pairing with my car can be hit and miss.

Used to get them direct from China as they were much cheaper that way - but last time we bought from Browne Thomas for the same price you could get from China.

    Excellent value for money.

    Another issue or quirk

Screenshots put into DCIM folder so Google photos sees it and backs them up

I'm 3+ years still going very strong with my Poco X3 without any issues and I just bought a Poco C65 for a family member and straight out of the box this week Xiaomi appear to have botched a Miui software update that is resulting in bootloops on the new phone and plenty of others reporting the same on reddit

Had a Poco F3 for over 2 years, and am now using a Poco F5.

I've found both to be excellent.

I moved onto hyperOS 1 last month and it is a step up IMO. Better smart home integration in the control centre and I'm finding better battery life too versus last Miui 14.

Can only echo your sentiment, I've had Mi8 then Poco F2 pro and now a Poco F5 all have been excellent and great performers versus their competition.

Have had a few Xiaomi phones however my last phone was a Nokia 7 Plus which had a very vaniilla form of Android. Currently have the Poco X5 pro. Find Miui grand. Its not as bad as it used to be in terms of bloatware and the likes. Recently, I've unlocked the bootloader and have a custom ROM on it. I'll likely go back to Xioami.EU rom if the Google pay issue continues. FYI having an unlocked bootloader doesnt play nice with banking apps etc. But with Magisk Modules, there are some workarounds but its getting tighter to get around Googles attempts at being a closed shop.

About month ago I wipped my ximio redmi 10 in vain attempt to gain control of a horrible phone. Failed. Miserable. Did clean install and since I'm plauged with trash (betting and porn) pop ups and Norton adware. Now updating to version 13, know I taking a chance . Any idea how to gain control, format for a Linux OS fresh install

    For thi

Is your phone the Redmi 10, Redmi 10s or Redmi Note 10? If it is the Redmi 10 or 10s variant, these have a Mediatek processor which there are fewer Custom Roms available and probably less maintained now. If it is the Note 10. You might be able to put Xiaomi.eu rom on it or CR Droid. Which do you have?

Im still using the Mi 8 (6 years old) with a custom ROM and Kernal. Just recently upgraded it to Android 14

    Works flawlessly

I'm happy enough with mine, but at the moment no Xiaomi phone supports ESims. That could be a dealbreaker for some.
