    Hi all

young lad is looking for a PC for gaming.

I was wondering if anyone is using a mini PC to do this?

    Any recommendations?

    Cheers

    DT

    I do, I use the HX99G.

It's very good and I love how compact it is but you're going to be paying more for worse performance compared to normal PC.

The graphics card also isn't up-gradable so in a few years the whole machine has to be replaced.

Base HX99G + 16GB Ram/1TB NVME will set you back not far off €1k.

If the games are things like Roblox or Minecraft, or older games like GTA V, you would get away with a far more basic mini PC for maybe €400.

    Hi DT,

You haven't mentioned a budget for this? And also requirements, as to the types of games your son might like to run.

I am not sure of your experience working on PC componentry.

I know you have asked about Mini PC, but I would just like to play devils advocate here.

While a mini PC would be great - most of the components will be embedded, meaning replacement/upgrades isn't ever an option. Also, the GPU capabilities will be more limited than what you might get on a larger form factor PC.

Have you considered buying a used rig? A reasonably modern (M)/ATX PC that has been used for gaming in the past could be acquired for a reasonable price. In a few years time, you could probably stick in a newer graphics card to improve support for newer games.

Granted it won't be mini form factor, which I appreciate might be an issue, if you have been asking due to space requirements.
