Hi I was wondering can anybody help me with this. I am looking to buy a Suzuki Swift. I have seen two. Both from main dealers. Come fully serviced etc. My quandary is one is a 201 with less than 20,000 km on the clock. The other one is a hybrid former Rental car with 67 000km and year 2022.

Which is the better buy? the younger car with more km or the older with very few km? both are the same price.

I know nothing about cars so any advice would be welcome

    I'd go with the 201 20,000km car.

Rental car be driven by God knows who and how many different driving styles

Second that- the 201 with 1/3 the mileage

The lower mileage 201 would be my pick too, rental cars are a lottery, chances are they will have had a hard life

I rent cars frequently on the continent. I wouldn’t buy an ex-rental. Because they get driven by people like me who really don’t take care of them,

    Do you do mich mileage?

And how long do you plan on keeping it?

Another vote for the older one with the lower mileage thats not been a rental.

Apart from the fact that one was a rental, it really depends on your annual mileage

Hi thanks for all your replies. my annual mileage would be only about 6000km so I knew i would not be putting much more km on it. I think it is pretty unanimous that the older car is the way to go. thanks again.

At 6k per year I'd buy the newer one, if you plan on selling on after 5 or 6 years.

In 5 years it'd be a year newer and still at under 100k km.

This country loves number plates at resale.

If you plan to keep forever then the Lower mileage one.

Lower mileage, look at it this way: one car with just over a years worth of mileage, or one with about 4 years worth (average 15k/year).

There’ll be a lot less wear and tear on the older car

Some argue that ex rental will be well maintained and serviced. But I don't think that negates the abuse that they receive from some drivers. If the choice was there I would avoid the ex rental.

I'm surprised that the prices are the same regardless of the milage. Is the newer car much cheaper than others of the same year?

had great fun in a rental a few years ago, drove up mountain roads and places id never otherwise drive.

How many owners on older car? If one and it was serviced/ oil changed at 10 or 15,000 km, I'd defo go for that.

In 2018 I had the choice of a low mileage S Line A6 2014 or a higher mileage SE 2016 for the exact same price from same dealer, I went with the older, lower mileage, better spec car and never regretted it. Sold it for 80% of what I paid for it 4 years later too during all the madness!

The 2022 still has one years plus manufacturers warranty on it so that would be my choice.

Suzukis have 3 year / 100,000 km warranty so theres warranty on it till 2025 - the 2021 is close to being out of warranty.

smaller cars with above average miles are a no no come resale , as in this case its too easy to find a much lower mileage one
