Buying a cooker

Can't find too much info on this. So a 2-burner gas cooker 2x 1,5 kW, 12V electric ignition from nolan camper supplies is €740.00. I know there are cheaper 12v cookers but can we not just go with a 230v cooker from ikea which is €130?

Also if anyone knows, does a 230v cooker have to be plugged in for the 'flame failure safety device' to operate or is the cooker functional without plugging in?

    Many many thanks.

    Peter

And just to specify: a 230v 2-burner gas cooker from IKEA (not an induction stove)

Looking at both units, the biggest issue is that the burner rings and supports on the Ikea unit are not secured. Not an issue for a unit in a house, but in a moving vehicle, you'll have problems. At best, they'll bounce out and possibly do some damage (or get damaged). At worst, if you are unfortunate enough to have a crash, there are now a number of metal pieces flying towards the occupants in the front of the van. Those same components are secured on the Thetford 12v unit.

You'll need to check the documentation from Ikea as to the operation of the unit without a 230V supply - its available on the relevant webpage. As far as I know, you would have to ignite the gas manually (eg matches) but you'll need to read through the paperwork to confirm.

A quick Google search shows the "camper" hob available for considerably less elsewhere
