This might sound silly and there's probably an obvious answer so bare with me ,

We have a Octavia estate 15 we are looking to get rid of and trade in & upgrade to a 6/7 seater ,

Just because the family is getting bigger & we need ,

What the best way tr go about a trade in, iv never done it before, Do you just try to find a car your interested in & ask if the accept trade in & see what they will give you for your own car off the price ?

Whats the best way to approach it ,

yes find the car like first then ask the deal for trade in value, you then pay the difference with cash or finance. however if sell the car privately you are likely to get a bit more but if you dont want the hassle then go for trade in.

This is a car you’ll easily sell privately, if you want the lowest cost to change.

But, there’s nothing as good as not having to deal with the buying public and their nonsense so it might make sense just to trade it in. As you say, just find a car for sale by a dealer and see if they’re interested in a trade.

Give the car a good clean before showing to the dealer.

You seem to have had a lot of engine trouble with this car lately. You could sell it privately but you could be just looking for hassle. Private is sold as seen but it wont stop some buyers coming back to your door if an issue pops up later.

Find a car from a dealer and ask them about a trade in. They'll take it as seen and any issues that pop up later wont be your problem.

Make sure to shop around different dealers for similar cars as prices do vary. Focus on the cost to change price rather than the trade in value of your car as that can be inflated to seem more attractive.
