The way I cook vegetables

Is this a common way to cook veg?I cut up my veg and put them (ideally) in a wide saucepan.

I put in enough water to cover the bottom well and keep a lid handy

The water boils and the veg cook in it.

I might use the lid to increase the temp or to spread it evenly around.

The water evaporates (with it without a lid) and the veg are normally done then.

I might throw in some oil at the end when the water is practically gone.

Would that be a common way of cooking as I have never seen it in books?

I see it as half boiling ,half steaming.I never normally throw away the water ,except perhaps with potatoes when I leave a little in the bottom half way through and finish them off with a lid ,maybe just under their own "steam"
