Both my attic windows were just replaced FOC, see code, OOUE, below. Since they replaced my non broken one as well, it might be worth giving them a ring if you have any of these installed windows.

John, was there an option to install upgraded glazing, such as low-E or similar?

I didn't enquire about this, these are two small roof windows and this attic/bedroom takes very little heat to keep it warm.

I had mine replaced about ten years ago, as above one of the inner panes shattered. It's a known issue and they were straight out to replace. Didn't enquire about upgrade either, lads just arrived with new glass.

They were very attentive, enquiring whether anyone injured, furniture damaged etc., which thankfully there wasn't.

How did you hear about the free replacement??.

I didn't. I thought it was a bit odd for a pane to randomly shatter so I rang them to inform/complain but they knew all about it.

It's the old issue of inclusions in the glass, I'd guess. Saw a very interesting one recently where the center of the spider-web of cracks had perfect butterfly shape and right in the center of the butterfly wings you could see a tiny black dot. That's the inclusion - or grain of dirt.

    Almost exactly like this:

Not sure of the cause but something to with temp difference. It doesn't shatter and stay in place, it blows out with a very loud bang, at least mine did.
