NCT fail for DRL

Just walked into the local for a few and a pal brought his daughters car up to Ballymun for test, 2013 polo. Failed because lights do not go off when switch is in the ‘0’ position. I’m reasonably sure that this is a DRL feature. Anyone care to comment?

Yeah it’s impossible to turn off all the lights in a Polo with the engine still running. I’ve probably passed 50+ NCT’s in these Polos and never failed because of it.

My advice would be to just show up to the visual re test and turn the lights on and off with the engine not running and they will pass.

On the slightly older but same shape Polo, the DRL and headlight are the same thing, so it looks like there’s a fault.

Surely you should be able to see a physical difference in the illumination levels between DRLs and headlamps?

Blame the penny-pinching VAG in as much as make the dipped headlights double as the DRLs is causing the perceived issue here.

Its the NCT testers fault for being incompetent

If your friend and his daughter aren't happy with how they have been treated by the NCTS, they should contact the Ombudsman's Office
