Thoughts on aftermarket car parts v genuine parts

Hi, I am in need of two kidney grilles for my 2017 BMW 3 series F 30 sport. Priced up genuine kidney grilles with BMW main dealer and quoted €180 for the two.

I was just looking online on autodoc and found two aftermarket kidney grills for my BMW for €60 including delivery. The manufacture that make these is called VAN WEZEL.

any thoughts on purchasing aftermarket parts is it a risk or would I be just better off buying from main dealer?

    Thanks

I've fitted aftermarket black kidney grills I bought from ebay to an F10 5 Series before and they were fine. Only issue I had was that the clip on one was broken on delivery. Contacted seller who sent a replacement. BMW OEM ones are probably better quality but they obviously more expensive.

For €60 I'd take a punt on them.

Have you tried the likes of the following or other in Europe?

Personally it wouldn't be an issue for me on cosmetic parts like that, might be a different story if it was a mechanical part that might impact a warranty.

Have you tried breakers for it? Although you mightn't get it for much cheaper than €60, it should be OEM.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

I used to sell BMW parts - aftermarket grilles were one of the things that sold like hotcakes. Found some of them fitted absolutely perfect, and others could be a bit crap to be honest. They were all the shadlowline versions which BMW didn't sell at the time, so there was no genuine option.

You should be able to get the genuine ones for a reasonable enough cost though - I'd tend to stick with genuine for any body panels / parts where possible.
