Sky HD remote replacement

This is somewhat related to satellite, so hopefully it's in the right forum. I bought a sky plus remote for my mother last year for about €15, a button has gone in it now and I was going to replace only they seem to have over doubled in price. Is there any universal remote that will work with the sky hd box? I don't think she uses any recording feature just keys in the channel numbers, so it doesn't have to be a feature rich remote either.

    Thanks

You might be able to open it and restore that button. I used the idea in this YouTube video, and there are more ideas online. I just cleaned the board with cotton buds, as I don't have isoproply alchohol. And rather than using superglue and concentrating on particular keys, I just dusted whole underside of the buttons with pencil lead.

Worked well on a remote for a satellite box where the buttons started losing contact after a few years use. You could ruin the remote completely, so be aware of that risk. I would not use superglue. You will probably have to use a bit of force to get it open.

The brand One for All generally work on Sky receivers, the codes are supplied with the remote.

If you go down the road of opening and cleaning the remote, I generally use the little surgical wipes from a first aid kit, I clean the pcb and the back of the button panel. Just a gentle wipe as some of the wipes can be very moist, allow to dry off or wipe with soft tissue. Clean the contact surface on the buttons as well, dust and grime build up and can reduce the movement on the buttons. Remember to allow the unit dry before putting it back together

Thanks, that looks straightforward enough, I might have a go, although I might pick up a One for All remote as well if I mess it up.

Get a can of WD contact cleaner spray and spray on the board. Cleans it well and it dries off quickly itself.

Something similar happened to my Q remote, I just rang Sky and they sent me out a new one in the post.

But that's because you rent the Sky Q equipment form Sky. Whereas pre Sky Q once you received a Sky box, it was yours to keep

People on YouTube are saying press 7 and 9 together and that will reset the remote. Did you keep the old one?
