Jobseekers Allowance with Sporadic Freelance Work

    Hey all,

Just had a couple of questions for ye! I'm on Jobseekers Allowance and considering some freelance work through websites such as Upwork, where money is earned on a job by job basis rather than work being allocated over a certain period of days/hours. Money would be collected on my Upwork account and subsequently released to my bank account on a chosen date.

I understand the x's and o's system when it comes to part-time work, but as that is calculated on a day-by-day basis and not in terms of amount earned (as far as I'm aware), I'm not sure how this can be calculated with SW. I don't want to take up this kind of online work if it has a significant impact on my claim or results in the necessity to sign off, as it would be low earning for quite some time while building up experience.

On a separate note, I have upcoming work in the UK for 3 weeks - do I need to sign off jobseekers entirely or can my claim be paused while I am away? I understand maximum holiday time is 2 weeks but not sure of the implication of doing short-term work abroad.

Final questions - I imagine I would need to complete a Form 11 next year in relation to the above UK work (would not be taxed at source) and potential freelance work. Where on the form do these need to be included? Does this kind of work require registering as self-employed?

If anyone has any insights on the above it would be very much appreciated. Thanks guys.

Given to work is sporadic, my best advice is to speak directly with your Intero Centre as there's really no mechanism for you to declare. X & O arrangement wouldn't work as your employer required to stamp & sign forms.

With regard to the 3 weeks of work in the UK yes, sign off but I'd advise Intero centre to suspend claim for those 3 weeks rather than close it, if possible.

    Not sure about Tax Question.

You can't leave the country for 3 weeks maximum is 2. With regards the freelance whatever days you work your boss signs the X and O forms for the days you've worked and you'll get paid from SW for the other days.

I can't see a sporadic online employer stamping or signing X & 0's or suppling an employer number, but you never know I guess
