Aer Lingus flight cancelled, reimbursement of expenses.

I had an Aer Lingus flight scheduled for today (17/01) at 10:50 from Munich (MUC) to Dublin (DUB), but it was cancelled yesterday at 22:55 pm due to bad weather conditions in Munich.

I then received a new flight booking for tomorrow (18/01) at 20:50 pm.

In other words, I'll have to spend on food, transport and accommodation (2 nights as the flight is only at night). In this case, the airline guarantees reimbursement of these expenses, correct? What do they consider to be reasonable use in terms of expenses?

Cancellations caused by bad weather bring no entitlement to compensation.

Bad weather is deemed one of the "extraordinary circumstances" that are outside of the airline's control.

True, but thats EU261 COMPENSATION.

They still have a duty of care to you, so you should get reasonable hotel and transport expenses while you wait.

Even if other flights from other airlines weren't cancelled? In other words, many of the flights scheduled for the same time took off successfully.

Am far from an expert on the topic. My earlier answer was just based on my own experiences of a few years ago (with a different airline, but not Ryanair) when all flights from the airport in question had to be cancelled due to weather.

I obviously don't know the exact specifics of how things are in Munich Airport right now, but if other flights from other airlines are successfully taking off this morning (when yours should have departed too), then that might change things for you all right.

That's no indication. maybe some aircraft got out before the runways were closed for clearing. Delays with de icing. With bad weather (freezing weather in Central Germany yesterday and today) it's a lottery.

But.. Ryanair paid my hotel expenses when we had a flight cancelled from Gatwick in early December.

You are mixing up "compensation" and "reimbursement".

The op is not in any way asking about compensation.

They are asking about reimbursement for which they are absolutely entitled to.

"Reasonable" expenses would see hotel at €100-€150 per night and meals at €30-€50 for the day. Receipts are necessary.

Yes, I see that now.

Am maybe just lucky that apart from the one time mentioned above, has never happened to me otherwise. And the question of compensation/reimbursement didn't really arise that time either, as there was no overnight stay involved - was just a case of what should have been an early flight (approx 7 a.m.) not being able to depart until about 5 p.m.

Was just a long day hanging around the airport, and come to think of it, I did get a voucher for a lunch, so I suppose I was "looked after" in some way anyway.

I was booked on the outward cancelled flight lost out on connecting train fares to innsbruck and hotel accommodation, they offered to reroute the same day to munich via Amsterdam, if they couldn't fly why would they expect anther airline to do it?
