Why isn’t an eyesight report required for each driving licence renewal?

I got my first learner permit back in 2008 for which I had to do an eye exam. I passed my eye test (just about) meaning I did not have to wear glasses.

Since then, my eyesight has deteriorated and I’m now L: -1.75 and R: -2.25. I would struggle to see adequate distance when driving, particularly at night. As such, I wear my glasses when driving.

I wonder how many people are driving merrily along like Stevie Wonder whose eyesight has since deteriorated.

Is a basic eye exam and medical every 10 years too much?
