Why would the charger or tool not work with a fully charged battery?

Bosch chainsaw not working.

Charger shows red light, see image.

I've checked battery voltage and it's 20v.

Hmmm chainsaw. Sorry if this seems like a dumb reply but have to ask if you've knocked the chain brake on? On electric chainsaws that also cuts the battery power to the motor as well as releasing a brake on the sprocket drum.

I don't think it has one. I checked that chain etc and all is well.

I should try the battery with another tool I don't have another Bosch

Red light means problem with the battery, right? Do you have a second battery to try in the saw? Or another tool you can try the battery in?

If the battery is cold or warm then leave it for a few hours at room temperature then try again. Also clip the battery in and out a few times to check its seated correctly.

Could be an issue with the battery. I've a Ring doorbell and one of my batteries just stopped working in the doorbell even though it was fully charged, never dropped and it was an official battery.

The brake on my DeWalt battery chainsaw is the hand guard when it is in the forward position. It has to be pulled/clicked back towards the body of the machine. Could yours have a similar function built in.?

Already asked that and there is definitely a Bosch chainsaw product the uses that battery system that has a hand guard and no chain brake.

btw does your DeWalt battery chainsaw leak as much chain oil all over the place as mine does?

The chain does seem to use as much oil as you put into the oil well. I generally try and save any old oil I have for this (eg drained gear oil from the outboard, or if you have old car oil from an oil change).
