VW Sharan Gearbox Replacement

    Hi

We've a 2015 VW Sharan Automatic, the gear box is giving a lot of trouble, we've been given a rough quote from main dealers of between €7k to €10k to fix/replace it, it puts us in a precicament over it now because its up for NCT next week, trading it in has already proved problematic in that its not working properly. Its a Mechatronic gearbox which is what makes it so expensive, we will contact a gear box recondintioning/repair place too, but just wondering if anyone has had similar problems and how much did it cost to get repaired.

    Thanks

Well main dealers will be crazy money.

    where are you based,

these guys do DSG gearbox’s, give them a ring and they might give you an idea.

You can get it repaired for €1k to €3k in an automatic gearbox repair centre

Forget a main dealer for this, they will just follow the manufacturer's script of replace, not repair once it's the customer paying.

That is a common problem with DSG gearboxes so I'd imagine a gearbox specialist will have plenty of experience of repairing/rebuilding them and at a fraction of what the main dealer charges to replace.

Thanks everyone, we plan on ringing a gearbox repair place in cork on monday anyway, I had seen the gearbox centre west aswell so we'lll give them a ring.. We had been thinking the main dealers would be more expensive, just weren't sure how much more expensive they could be.

A little Update, we brought the car to the Gearbox Centre, they think its an electrical problem, but will need the car for a few days to investigate further. I've asked the main dealer for a report of what they found wrong and a written quote to get it fixed, they were supposed to send it out a day or so after the car was checked but they haven't sent it yet so I asked them again for it on friday, their quote was between €7k and €13k but most likely around €10k so it was a very vague verbal quote that they gave.

A quote of €7 - €13k sounds like code for saying they can't be bothered taking on the job for whatever reason.

Yeah thats what we felt, they never did respond to the request for a proper quote either, we've still not had a definate answer about it, another place is going to look at it this week, he said if it can't be repaired it could cost €5/€6k to replace, a bit more reasonable than the main dealers at least but still not a definate price, its been going on now about 4 months, the problem hasn't changed, hasn't gotten worse so we're hoping it might be something that can be fixed, rather than having to be replaced.

Just a further update, we brought the car to RM Gearboxs, they identified the fault, took it in last week, ordered the parts, fitted the parts this week and we collected it today, just under €5k to get it repaired.

Decently cheaper if not cheap. Not loving the cost of dsg repairs. It's getting harder to avoid a dsg these days.
