Hi all, I've entered Valencia marathon in December and am looking to get under 3.12 during the year to have a crack at sub 3 in Spain. The marathon training block I'm looking at will finish around June, and I was wondering if anyone has any experience of the Thoroughbred run in Kildare as a PB course, it's probably either Kildare or the Cork marathon. I'm siding with Kildare, just for handiness sake, it's only an hour away, no need for overnight accommodation and extra expense

Why are you thinking of doing a marathon in June if your goal race is in December? Should you not be working on 5/10km training in first half of the year to help with the main goal?

I normally do 2 marathons a year, my PB is 3.15, which I believe won't get me into the 3.00 - 3.12 starting pen in Valencia, so the plan was go for under 3.12 in June. It's giving me nearly a year of progressive buildup, to have a crack at 3.00 in Spain

If you send them a link to the official results that will you’ll get into that wave. I did it last year with a 1:30:12

Doing a marathon like Kildare at that time of the year will only mean you have to go through another whole marathon plan for Valencia (which I'm doing myself). I would agree with the previous poster that you should focus on shorter distances like 5 and 10K for the first half, look to build up your speed and then going to your marathon plan with a really good base

That's brilliant thanks, I didn't know that time for a half would count
