I am hoping to go to Paris for the Olympics this summer. Obviously accomodation costs are going to be very high. I dont know paris that well so I am looking for advice on safe areas to stay maybe outside the city centre there will be four of us for about 12 nights so an apartment or holiday rental would be good option also. hope you can help any advice is much appreciated

Would you consider Village Nature - about an hour outside Paris? We stayed there this year and loved it. We went into Paris twice during our stay (with 2 kids) and it was very easy.

Its a 20min bus to the train station (Disneyland Paris station) + 30-40 min train to Paris.

Its a Centre Parcs place - and has a bakery, swimming pool, takeaways on site so would be nice for down time.

I stayed in the Montmartre for 3 different weekends during the Rugby World Cup. It's a bit seedy, but fine.

Staying in the 2nd arrondissement for the Olympics. Seems decent, and popular with the locals

Anywhere with metro access will be fine for getting to the games. Personally I like the 5th.

I would avoid the area around the Stade de France and also the Gare du Nord.

Staying in the Clichy area for some of the Olympics. Once there is a metro station close by is the important thing.

Check carefully the location of the events you're hoping to see, as some of them are not in Paris. The competitive shooting, for example, is taking place near me - 250km from Notre Dame! And the competitive surfing is not in France at all ... or even in Europe (it's in Tahiti). There are also a lot of events on the outskirts of the greater Paris area that may require several Metro/RER/Tram changes, depending on where you stay.

We stayed in bercy village for the Rugby WC.

Short walk to the station on the 14th line, nice little selection of bars an restaurants right outside the door.

Didn't feel unsafe or saw anything that made me uncomfortable.

    Common sense is your friend.

I'd go back there, note rooms v small.
