Hi, I have a question about how the home carers tax credit works for 2023, in this situation.

    Jointly assessed.

Person 1 earned €60,000 for the year

Person 2 only earned 15 euro for the year.. yes 15 euro, not 15 thousand.

14 year old son living with them.

What tax credits in total would they be entitled to?

Would it be A or B below, or something different?

    A:

    Married tax credit 3550

    Person1 Paye tax credit 1775

    Person2 Paye tax credit 1775

    Home Carers tax credit 1700

    Total tax credit 8800

    B:

    Married tax credit 3550

    Person1 Paye tax credit 1775

    Person2 Paye tax credit 1775

    Total tax credit 7100

Person 2 won't be getting a paye tax credit of 1775, they didn't earn enough and it isn't transferable like the personal tax credit is.

Person 2 can claim the home carer credit and it will be used by person 1 against their income.

    So it's

    Married tax credit

    Person1 paye tax credit

    Home carer tax credit

That makes sense, thanks for clearing that up!
