Not so much about the pros and cons of it, but is anything open on New Year's Day in Dublin? Or is everything firmly shut and closed, even the small size supermarkets?

All the small Centra, Spar and even the convenience Tesco and Supervalu will be open

Was sorry I bothered! At least half the shops were closed and the weather was bloody miserable. Never doing New Year’s Day shopping again

New Year's Day is not really a popular shopping day for very obvious reasons.

Yea I usually go to the Dublin sales and that was the only day I was available before back to work. It was total shite to be honest

In Dublin all is quiet on New Years Day.

Bono even opened a song moaning about that fact.
