Hi guys. I'm currently looking for a club to join for 2024 and I'm hoping you can give me a bit of advice as to what might suit me best.

I live in Dun Laoghaire and I'd be looking for something that's about 30 mins away from me. I'd go to a max of €2000 a year fees, but with no upfront signing on charge.

I'd also need to be able to get out and play fairly easily too, I've heard stories of clubs with tee sheets booked up for weeks and that doesn't sound worth it IMO. Finally I'd be looking for something that has a decent enough competitive scene.

From my own research I see that Old Conna has no signing up fee if you're under 40 and it fits my budget. I've played it a few times and it's a bit basic but I've enjoyed it every time. I'm not sure how busy it gets though or what kind of comps they do. I'm also assuming they don't have a wait list, which is probably very naive of me.

Let me know if you think any other clubs around would suit what I'm looking for. I'd also be interested in hearing about clubs that are actively trying to recruit people by offering any good deals on membership. Another alternative would be to join somewhere a bit further away that I could play on weekends and any mid-week playing I'd do would be open comps or green fees in places near me.

The only other realistic option is Carrickmines. 9 hole / 18 tee box course. There is an entrance fee of 3k though, but fees are reasonable.

I think Old Conna is closed for U40 membership.

Beechpark in Rathcoole migth be an option https://www.beechpark.ie/membership-packages.html as could stackstown.

But taking a distance membership and playing in opens might be the best option initially. The heath has a €350 fee https://www.theheathgc.ie/membership-details and quite accessible

and a left field option - Clane GC - part of Clongowes college, but open to public. €360 for your 1st year.

The new Sallins bypass - jct 9a of the M7 means its less than 10 min from the M7 Junction. there are some tee restrictions as its in school grounds.
