Rav4 Malfunction light ahead of a busy Christmas period - what to do?

    Hi folks,

With laser like timing, a malfunction indicator lamp (solid, not flashing) has come up on the dash of my 2018 Rav4 hybrid (have it since 2020, zero issues. Serviced every 10 months).

Due to do a good bit of driving over the next week (Dublin to Monaghan to Belfast to Wexford etc.) and unless I get a miracle, will I get a garage to look at this tomorrow?

It's driving perfectly. Hybrid system working fine at low speeds as normal. We've only one car so it's either risk this or cancel plans.

What do I do? Any christmas advice from the wise men on here?

Try to make it to a garage to read the fault. I've had it come on before for holes in exhaust which while need to be fixed don't mean the car needs to be off the road.

If that can't be done, head to your local Aldi and buy this for €17 to read the fault and then from that make a decision as to whether you need to cancel your plans if it's serious or not...

EML lights are rarely serious, as above pick up that code reader, bargain at that price.

Thanks lads. Most appreciated. I’ll be at the garage tomorrow morning and hope they open.

Either way I’ll be picking that scanner up.

If the car was serviced at a Toyota dealership it will be covered by the Relax Warranty.

Got into my regular indy and they connected it. A faulty lambda sensor (they put it up on the lift and inspected it as well).

Light actually was off when they started the car but at least I know I won’t be stuck on Christmas Day on some small wet road with a car full of eighty something year olds!

They said source the part over the break so it’s ready to go in January (Toyota already gone for Christmas so they can’t even tell me how much it would be to get from them other than expensive).

Thanks for all the help and advice lads - really appreciate it.
