Late Claim for Jobseekers

    Hello,

I am putting in a claim for Jobseekers. My employment in Ireland came to an end in November 2021. I did not make a claim with Social Welfare. I have spent periods out of the country looking after a sick elderly relative who has since died. I have returned to my Irish address on occasions during this period. I have supported myself without any social welfare claims.

The forms with regard to habitual residence asks if I have lived at the same address for the past two years. It also asks for a reason if there is a late Claim.

I did have the use of my address in Ireland but I was away for extended periods. Just wondering where It asks if you have lived at the same address for last two years if I should state No and it wants an address so give the UK address where I was.

Just seems a bit of a contradiction to say I have lived at the same address and then reason For late Claim because I was out of the country for long periods. Maybe more straight forward to say I was absent from the state the last two years? Any implications or proof be required?

The relevant tax year is 2021 in which I have made enough contributions. So maybe it's not so important.

Would be grateful for opinions. Thanks,

The reason they ask about late claims is to determine how you supported yourself, it is recommended you claim on the first day of unemployment.

The Habitual residency question is asked of anyone seeking a payment from DSP. I can't advise you what to put down other than the truth with an attached letter explaining what I believe are reasonable circumstances.

The Tax year 2021 will be applicable if applying for JSB but you need to Apply ASAP but this is not relevant to the Habitual resident question & Late claim question all separate issues.

Is maith an scáthán súil charad.
