In 15 years in new build. Was never great, particularly in rads upstairs. Now having problems with it and it needs to be replaced. Our options are replacing it with a new Bosch heatpump (very expensive option), bulk LPG gas tank (big ugly tank in average sized garden because of strict regulations about where tank can be) or oil.

What would you do? I'd love some advice as everyone we talk to has a different opinion.

Find out whats wrong with the system you have, might be the cheapest option. A new heat pump wont necessarily fix problems if there is some underlying design flaw of the system you have, which might be worth establish the problem and resolving. What kind of HP do you have?

The outside unit has stopped working. Had a heatpump engineer out who suggested getting oil!

The HP stopped working? and he didnt say whats wrong with it? what caused it to stop, did he give you any kind of a report? anything specific? He doesnt sound like much of a HP engineer, especially if he just suggested oil. I'd be looking for a full report, whats wrong, why and how it can be fixed. Sounds like a handy number, just say its knackered and move to oil!?

Who is the manufacturer, model? power? maybe contacting the manufacturer or someone who deals with that make and model?

Is it monobloc or a split system? (ie make/model)

Maybe the working fluid needs to be refilled/pressurised? did he check the water side is pressurised, how long was he at it and what did he do? and charge?

Saw this the other day and gave a fairly measured view of heat pump poor installation and poor configuration. Gave a good overview of how a system should and could work well.

    Suggest watching it in full.
