Insane money. Good luck getting that much value out of it.

I know I'm about 6 weeks late in replying, but has it not be worked out, that it's actually a steal for the Dodgers.

He's going to easily pay for himself with Japanese advertisers, and additional fans

It's alot of pressure now on him. Do I think hes worth the money personally? Yes but will the fans turn on him and will be expected of too much? Yes

The money mostly comes after the 10 years? It's back-loaded so he earns $2m/year (imagine...)

then gets the rest in 10 years, when, presumably, it's worth less and costs the Dodgers less, future money always cheaper than present money.

Season 1 looks to have been a success at least

Yes, 2m a year for 10 years, then 68m a year for the next 10 years. It's pretty mad stuff. Obviously worth less than the present value but still crazy money in the scheme of things and Ohtani wont mind the devaluation because of course this would have been considered anyway during negotiations and 'provided for'.

Deferred payments just devalue the franchise - if the Dodgers are sold, the contract applies. Smacks of M United and the Glazers really. Strips the Dodgers future value.

MLB needs to rule on this sort of thing before it gets out of hand.
