Anyone here got a Daiwa Regal 9'5" carbon fly rod. Any good for river trout fishing. Down and across wet and upstream dryfly.

#5-#7 is a bit heavy for delicate dry fly fishing. What size river is it for? A rod between 9ft and 10ft in length rated #3 or #4 would be more suited for what you have mentioned above.

I am currently using an 8' Daiwa Whisker #4-5 line. I was looking for a longer rod maybe 9-10' to help clear the bank behind me. The river varies between 20-30' in width.

9ft #4 sounds ideal for that

But the rod I am looking at is a #5-7 line and 9'5" . Would the 5-7 line be too heavy.

    Is carbon better than graphite?

I think #5 to #7 is too heavy personally, that's what I would consider a boat rod for lake fishing. Carbon and graphite are for all intents and purposes the same thing. For fishing rods you won't be able to tell the difference between them until you start getting in to specialist rods.

For an all purpose river rod there is no discernable difference between the two materials.

Are Diawa fly rods good fly rods in general.

I would say so yes. Especially their boat rods. I've a 10ft 6in #7 I've had for the last 15 years and it's still going strong. A bit on the heavy side these days but built like a tank and has a perfect action for Lough style fishing.
