Is there any point in making claims on my own policy for damage I did to my own car quote to fix it €1000 my excess is 250 with full no claims step back Protection? 🤔

Do you trust your existing insurer to honour the 'step back protection' and genuinely ignore the claim when your policy comes up for renewal?

Because, come renewal time, you will be at their mercy, given that you will need to declare that claim to any other insurer if you go looking for alternative quotes.

I wouldn't go near insurance company for that repair.

I had a non fault accident where I ended up having to claim on my own policy for about 5k and to be fair, it.made no difference whatsoever at renewal but I did have full protected no claims.

At 750 quid to gain, not worth the hassle and risk of increase. You might even get hob done cheaper when paying yourself.

I don't think protected discount means they ignore the claim

I think it just means you still have the discount but base premium can rise

Protected NCD is only valid with the company you are currently with, so come renewal at all other insurance companies you've zero NCD.

No they don't ignore the claim. Before the claim you're premium is €800 with full NCD which would be about €400 for your policy. After the claim you premium is €1000 with full NCD so you're now paying about €500 for your policy. With every other company you have no NCD.

Your premium is based on your risk with the information that you provide the insurance company. Your NCD is a discount that you get for not making any claims. They are 2 different parts of insurance.

My insurance premium has gone up when I haven't made any claims, so every year I check all the insurance companies and go whichever one has the cheapest price for the cover I require.

Just update to this anyway main thing takeaway from this is shop around first quote was like 1000 euros do lot of insurance works ect going by there Facebook and was pushing me to go insurance ect . Second quote place looks good nice Garage bodyshop modern paint mixer ect he was saying 250€ and it was perfect job

Just go to show people bodyshop are robbing insurance companies went there paying

Sorry for bringing it now, but just to understand. If you have a claim with NCB protection you would have to renew with your current company and stay there at least another year to receive a NCB certificate with full NCB you have (no losses)?

No, after 1 year to every other company you only have 1 years NCD. You restart the NCD system at every company bar the one you protected it with.
