    Hi all

Looking for some advice I have a automatic vitz barley used nowadays 2008 50k miles on it, Flew thru everything but the co2 it was 34% (pass is below 20%) Which i understood was a bad cat? A friend I know who is good with cars recommended Dipetane, I tried looking up some people suggest it's great, others not so. Car is very very clean and in 2021 co2 was 4%,2022 was 17%..

A garage said 1000 for a toyota exhaust system but seemed a bit much... Would the full bottle and a hard drive before the test lower it enough to pass it, going to try it but would like some advice on the worst case scenario

    Cheers

Are you in Dublin? Go to Auto Exhausts in Crumlin. They mostly do Toyota emission failures

I'm no expert but if the cat is indeed gone then all the Dipetane in the world isn't going to help it pass the NCT.

Forget about buying one from Toyota. Maybe look at getting an aftermarket one or a second hand one from a breaker's yard.

First thing i would have asked =barely used ? We had umpteen cars driven from A to B for a few miles and not driven to burn the crap out of exhaust.

First thing i would be doing is motorway driving to get it good and hot and clearing the exhaust out.

Is the car burning oil badly ?

Diagnostics should see what is going on with lambda probes and the cat with the graph.

    Thanks lads

there's a place in galway i heard that are decent, will be going after the next NCT.

Its normally used for short trips every week, the past previous owner only clocked up 5000 km a year and I heard that short trips weren't really good with exhausts with the constant heating up and cooling.

Car is driving perfect no issues with burning oil, The only problem I thought buying from a breakers is getting a cat that's as bad(that was the garages response to me saying 2nd hand one) I was thinking of buying a brand new cat online and re welding in onto the existing one would that be more effective do ye think lads?

    cheers

There is your issue to start with =short journeys .

As i said give car a good run first before doing the cat as your only guessing it will fix it .

If you had someone close to you to check emissions after a good run or diagnostics with graph to see them drop down.

Is your model a Japanese import with different parts fitted?
