Oil boiler

    Hi

My mother has just upgraded to new oil boiler and radiators. She is 82 and lives alone.

I was going to stick up her old boiler on done deal and the radiators too. However, I was not there and the plumber doing the work got someone else to take them away which is odd. It all happened very fast.

The oil boiler I think was put in 20+ years ago ( not sure if it was second hand ), probably around 65% efficient and the rads are probably in over 30 years, 10 of them.

Would theses have been worth anything ? The boiler was functional and would heat the rads. It's odd to me that someone else would have taken them if not worth anything.

When I asked the plumber, he said they are cast iron radiators they are no good. He said he gets the man to take them all away. He didn't comment on the boiler

Unlikely to be anything more than scrap material value.

It's normal for a plumber to clean up after himself and not leave old bits and pieces for the customer to dispose of. They might not even have a trailer or means to dispose of them.

I add on the cost and time it takes to get rid of this stuff. If anything valuable, I mention it to customer and ask what they want to do with it. It's of no use to me as I would never install used parts. It's never worth the hassle and potential call back.

Boiler is worth nothing but scrap. Cast iron radiators on the other hand can be valuable depending on style and condition.

Cast iron radiators are in vogue with people doing up period homes. Were the cast iron radiators just thrown out of efficiency reasons?
