SHO stand-alone job after BST

I am in my 2nd year of GIM BST. My specialty of interest is not included in my rotations and I was not able to swap with anyone. I was thinking of doing a stand-alone SHO job on that specialty I like for say 6 months to gain enough knowledge before becoming a registrar in the same specialty. Would that be looked a badly when I eventually apply for HST in my specialty of interest?

A bit of background: I went straight to GIM BST upon arriving in Ireland. I did not know beforehand that I could do SHO stand-alone jobs before going into BST. Perhaps I didn't get enough information about how the Irish or UK system works as the system I am familiar with is based heavily on the American system where you have to go straight into residency training upon graduation from med school to be able to practice.
