    Hey all,

Have a question. I'm not very experienced with cars. I've a Nissan quashai 1.5 dci 2012. Got it serviced 5months ago. And about 2 months ago was a leak from thermostat housing causing the coolant to go. The car doesn't have a coolant warning light. I didn't know until I checked the coolant after realising the heating wasn't working so not sure how long was without coolant prob not long though as had just refilled the water in window washer few days before. And car never overheated. No issues since coolant is perfect. The mechanic said all is good he has a diagnosis computer thing no faults. No lights on the dash. But just past week or so noticed a bit more fumes from exhaust and also there is a fuel or gassy smell when I come put of car after driving it ? Is this normal. I know its been colder recently so maybe the fumes are just more noticeable from this? It's not a lot fumes at all but can see them but can see on other cars too. It's more the smell I'm concerned about. I've asked my mechanic to have a look but just wana get some advice beforehand ?

Hope I've explained it correctly. TIA.

Any amount of things. First thing I'd have a look for is a leaking injector.

Missus had this issue a few months back and turned out to be the o-ring on a leak off pipe.

If you're smelling fuel then there is a fuel leak somewhere, or a hole in the exhaust.

If the car is old, so a 2012 would be, any work done could have damaged a small seal on any of the pipes or connections.

I had this exact same issue after a clutch replacement on my last car.

When the engine is cold !!!! Look around the top of it, or even get some tissue and dob it on top of anything that looks like a pipe and see if there is any fuel. Or look for black soot like substance around anything.

Check the ground when you move the car in the morning.

If you see diesel you can locate where it's coming from by position of car.

Could be a fuel filter leak.

A good search around the engine bay with a torch might help.
