Never declared car off the road

So I bought a car in May of this year which had been off the road since 2018. I never declared it off the road when the ownership changed to me and now that I’m trying to get it on the road I’m having trouble getting insured. They must assume it’s been driven uninsured even thought it’s been sitting in my driveway. What can I do? If I nct it will that give me a better chance as they know it’s roadworthy at least
