New tyres with higher load rating and XL

So, my wife's Yaris hybrid needs new tyres and I want to put a set of Michelin CrossClimate 2s on it like I recently put on my own car. The factory fitted tyres for the Yaris hybrid are 175 65 R16 84H, but Michelin only do those in 88H XL for that size, as do Bridgestone and Goodyear for their All Season offerings.

I'm wondering if I'm paying extra for the extra load and XL ratings, when they're not needed, and also what difference it might make to ride comfort etc. if the sidewalls are stiffer, for example?

There are alternatives from Hankook, Uniroyal and Nokian which all come in 84H, and are a good bit cheaper than the Michelins too. I've had Nokian winter tyres before and they're excellent so tempted to go for them. Thoughts?
