Insulation bedroom ceiling

Hi

we are working downwards from our attic which was recently converted.

However one of the lads had put his foot true the middle of the 6mmplaster board ceiling.

we would like too replace the boards & get it skimmed.

we are thinking of putting 50mm insulated plaster boards back up in its place.

would this be ok or go with 12mm normal plaster boards and insulate the with rolls of insulation between the ceiling timbers ??

either or will do. theres not a huge difference inf fibre wool vs insulated plasterboard. consider if you have recess lights or similar impediments. my preference is the insulated boards.

So you want to put insulated plasterboard between a first floor bedroom and a converted attic? Won't that make the attic room colder?

not backed up wiht empirical data, but I would say no..(queue the "heat rises" evangelicalists))) but you currently have plasterboard, a cavity (maybe fiberwool) and a timber floor to penetrate before the heat gets into the converted attic. now unless this temperature is extremely hot, the temperature differential would IMO be academic.

Yes that’s what I’m thinking of.

we used insulated boards + rigid board insulation in the attic so it’s fairly warm all ready.

50mm insulated boards wouldn’t be a major blocker of heat raising too the attic space.

Yes that’s exactly what we have.

we also have the option too go with 12.5mm board with Rockwool insulation on top under the floor in the attic.

insulated boards is the easier of the 2 options we have.

So why are you insulating then if it's not going to resist the transfer of heat in the first place?

then go with insulated boards. slightly more expensive, but worth it in the long run
