In my folks house there is a boiler in the chimney breast you know the ones with the old school square metal door in the hall way

They never used the timer before it's aboutn20 years old it's an old school one I turned it on to see if it worked & it seemed to turn the heat off at.the time it was set for , But instead of just turning the it turned the switch off on the time for heat on or off it seemed to also turn off the switch for the pump I'm the chimney,

It got me thinking is it OK for the Back boiler swith to stay on all day im guessing its just for the pump ??? & just use the switch on the timer to turn on & off the heat
