[Diabaetes - Type 2] Do i need to disclose to NDLS & Car Insurance?

Hi Guys -

I'm confused on whether i need to disclose my Type 2 Diabetes to NDLS & for car insurance. My type 2 is very well controlled over the last year and my sugar levels are normal. My medication has been reduced (i am no longer taking Diamicron since i've controlled it very well and i'm only on Synjardy now).

On the NDLS website it says the following regarding Medical conditions which need to be disclosed (https://www.ndls.ie/medical-fitness/do-i-need-to-submit-a-medical-report.html#medical-conditions-which-must-be-reported-on-all-applications)

"Diabetes treated by insulin and or sulphonylurea tablets (your doctor can advise whether you are on these or not) no need to tell us if managed by other tablets and or diet"

I had a look for Synjardy and it is not a sulphonylurea tablets (link: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/guide-to-diabetes/managing-your-diabetes/treating-your-diabetes/tablets-and-medication/sulphonylureas). Am i correct in saying i don't need to disclose to NDLS?

Secondly, i assume if i don't need to disclose to NDLS, i also don't need to disclose to my car insurance provider?

Confirm with your pharmacist about the question for NDLS. They are best placed to know. I've never heard of Synjardy but it seems to be a combination of metformin and jardiance. Neither are a sulphonylarea. But check with your pharmacist to be sure. As for your car insurance I've never declared mine. It doesnt affect my ability to drive and they have never asked.

For the sake of being 100% above board as above ask your GP or pharmacist for advice.

If it turns out boards.ie led you astray it wouldn’t sound as good as “well my pharmacist told me..” 😅
