Just wondering if anyone has a clue of what might be wrong with my car. It only passed the NCT two weeks ago. The car when turned on is running normally, there are no unusual symbols coming up on the dashboard to indicate anything is wrong. However, when I try reverse or go forward the car won't move at all. There is a slight rubber smell when attempting to move though. Any ideas? Thanks

Clutch? Although the smell would be of friction materials and not rubber

    is It trying to move?

is it an automatic or manual?

if it is a manual and it is trying to move does it have an electric hand brake?

more than likely the handbrake is stuck on or you have a dodgy calliper.

Has the car been laying up for a bit? As previous poster said, could be the handbrake is stuck. Is it moving at all or just clutch slipping / car stalling when you go to take off? Happened me before in the airport, car was there for a few weeks... Bit of brute force and ignorance freed it in my case - probably didn't do the clutch any favours though! 🤣

Is the car attempting to move, ie rocking back and forward when you try go forward or reverse.

The NCT will only tell you that your car passed through a specific set of parameters on a particular time on a particular day. You could drive out of the test centre and your engine could go pop.
