Netflix Resolution

It doesn't say on netflix.com/ie (as far as I can see) but is it the case that if you want 1080 resolution you need to get the 14.99 plan? The 8.99 plan is low res?

Yes €14.99 for full HD. €8.99 is 720p.

Switcher say 480p for basic. A Forbes article says 720p, soon to rise to 1080p.
I want to cancel Amazon prime video. Would Netflix be the better replacement?
